“Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met”.
“America, in the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children’s children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God’s grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.”

President Obama tells us about the obstacles we are going through as a whole nation. President Obama tells the truth and that is a great quality to have as President and also why lots of people including me like him. He says these obstacles we face might even take years to fix but he says he will fix them. Things can’t get any worse from what George Bush put America in. It can only get better. I like what President Obama has to say. He gives us hope and courage, not just as a country, but as a citizen of the United States. He makes you think that everything its going to be okay, and those things can’t get worse from what they already have.

"On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord." This appeals to me in many ways. The first is that it is a perfect parallel to FDR's quote of "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" which means simply that for once in our life we have learned from the past. We have realized that our fear is what causes economic problems such as the ones that we have been experiencing of late. Also fear is what has caused almost all of our major problems in history. It is also what has caused much of the violence in our nations history such as the civil war. The south was scared that the north was going to take away their way of life so they seceded and, presto, instant war. Thus this quote is about as true as possible.

"For us, they packed up their few worldly possessions and traveled across oceans in search of a new life." No I don't really agree with this quote and with good reason. First off the immigrants of the old ages didn't move here for us, they moved here for themselves. Now I'm not calling them selfish but they were trying to make their lives easier for the sake of their survival and their present families. Life sucked in the countries that they lived in before they came here and the promise of high wages and the chance to start life over without their past wearing away at them. But yes they did cross the ocean to get here, and yes they brought their only possessions with them, but that's the only real truth in this quote.

"That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. "
I chose this because he knows what is going on in America. He notices the problem we face each day as people living in the United States. He isn't afraid to put it out there for people to realize. he speaks the truth, as some may put it.

“We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year.”
I liked this quote when i read it because again it speaks the truth. He states that nothing is really changing throughout it all. All of our goods and services we provide each day are just as important as any other time in the past 8 years.

1. "Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath". That statement right there is totally incorrect. Only 43 people have taken this oath. Grover Cleveland was our 22nd and our 23rd president. So technically that statement is just a little bit off. But that's ok.

2. "That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred." That statement right there is a tad bit judgemental. Not everyone in the middle east are violent and hateful people. Just because there are many events/occasions that showed a detesting vibe toward our country (9/11) is one example. Sure it crippled America emotionally, made our security simply double in this last couple of years, and make a couple of adults in my life simply unstabe. I think that we still have absolutely no reason at all to hate middle eastern people.

“This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions — that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America. For everywhere we look, there is work to be done.”

President Obama is letting us knows that making America a better country won’t be a walk in the park. It will require not only his hard work, but ours also. We can’t just depend on President Obama to make America better. Despite how bad our economy has been left by the past president, we must take a chance and put our faith in President Obama and work hard with him to remake America.

“For as much as government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies. It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. It is the firefighter's courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent's willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate.”

The government will do everything it can to better our nation. But the American people are what really determine the depth of our success in making America better. I believe American people are now determined to do this because we now see government as help instead of a burden to us. American people also have to help one another and become more united. President Obama lets us know that we are all in this together, and that he is working with us to reach our goals as a nation.

"We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus — and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth;"

I agree with this quote because the United States isn’t just made on one religion or one culture but made of many. Our founding fathers all have different background and cultures. The U.S. is based on different backgrounds, and beliefs, its okay to be different here. The new President Barack Obama is different from the past presidents and if our nation was not made up of different religions and cultures, Obama wouldn’t be president.

“To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds”

I like this quote because it’s saying that we aren’t going to just think about ourselves, but of other people. We are going to do everything to help less fortunate nations. We and other nations who have an abundance of wealth need to reach out and help others. It may not be an easy task but working all together it can be done.

Obama's speech gave me chills because it was so powerful and heartfelt. When President Obama spoke it captured my attention because Obama spoke so calm and cool. The reason I liked the speech was because Obama seems to care alot about this nation and its people. The two quotes that stood out to me the most were

"On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord."

This quote is powerful and its so true because people seemed to be a little nerves that there would be a black president. And the fact that they still believed in him and voted for him shows they wanted change in America.

the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness."

I like this quote because it makes me feel like there is hope, like if I put my heart into something i can do it.

I really liked President Obama’s speech he gave during his inauguration. He kept talking about our founding fathers and what they have done and what we are doing now that is respecting what they have done for our freedom. He really thinks a lot about America and wants to help all the people. We are a country made of up a lot of religions, and backgrounds. In America it is OK to be different. It’s our right to stand up for what we believe in. Because of all the people before us that fought to keep our freedoms. He talked a lot about the work to be done to make things better. He knows that Americans voted for him to make a good change in our lives. He is a strong man who sees the trouble the country is in and is ready to work on making it better. My favorite quote in his speech is “Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met.” I like this quote because he talks about knowing just how hard we have it now. He wants to fix things. And he wants to let us all know he will get the job done. But he talks a lot about how it is the duty of all citizens to work hard to build a better America. That means keeping the faith, and working hard to keep the freedom America stands for. He wants to help make the entire world a better place for us all to live.

“Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met.”

This is a rather bold statement by Mr. Obama. I don't think it is the brightest idea for him to say that all America's challenges will be met. This is giving all Americans false hope. By the time his four years are up, what if he hasn't been able to meet all the challenges? People will think of him as a liar, and a scam. His confidence is what might come back to haunt him later down the road in his presidency. There are many things that America is facing right now, and to say that he will meet every single one of them shows me that he is a bit overconfident about what he will be able to achieve in his years of office.

“Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.”

- Although I am still skeptical about the election of Barack Obama as president, I am really hoping that he takes this quote to heart. Hopefully, by 2012, we will be in a better economic market and a safer America. All of us Americans need to be able to make better decisions concerning our futures. God permitting, Obama will hopefully will be what America needs to begin a better country as a whole.

I think that president Obama is promising us too much. There are a lot of problems in the world today, through the war, our economy, and more. Although this seams like a hard thing to accomplish i am going to try and hear him out. When he says he is going to meet these problems, he also says he knows its going to be hard and it is going to take time, this shows he knows how hard it will be, and it is good to know he is trying.

The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act — not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together."

Obama is saying that we will fix the economy together, and make new jobs to help the economy get stronger. I think that this is something good. Having new jebs will help the eonomy grow and give the nation more opprotunities. I hope that Obama will really try to get our nation tegether and help make our economy better.
