Just another Edublogs.org weblogThe Great Gatsby-Do You Really Believe that “All Men are Created Equal?”
Use this space to examine that idea.
Have these two men really been created equal? Do you believe that you and all of your friends are equal?
What does that even mean…equal?

In America everybody is of the opinion that he has no social superiors, since all men are equal, but he does not admit that he has no social inferiors, for, from the time of Jefferson onward, the doctrine that all men are equal applies only upwards, not downwards.
Bertrand Russell
People are pretty much alike. It’s only that our differences are more susceptible to definition than our similarities.

I don’t believe that all people are created equally. I think that what you do with your life determines weather or not you are like everybody else. For example; if somebody drops out of high school gets pregnant and spends the rest of there life’s on welfare and is competing against somebody for a job that has graduated Harvard and has a Master’s degree in business they wont be look at the same way as the other person would be, because the employer would look at them as if they weren’t responsible as if they are not dependable and cant be counted on, only because of there background. Everybody isn’t born into money and some aren’t born into homes. What you make out of yourself is what makes you equal or different from other. In the same token if another girl has a coach purse and I have one from Target, she may look at me as if I’m less then her, when really I might not be, I just might not like the coach purses. I think that everybody is equal, what you do with your self and how you carry your life will determine weather or not other people see you as equal, everybody has equal rights most people are born with equal things. [Except for some] you have to make yourself what you want to be people can only see your outside so in my opinion I think that you should show them how you want to be observed
I believe that originally all men are created equal but there are different opportunities created for each man. In the world today there are rich people, middle-class people, and poor people. When they are all born they are equal but as they grow up there are given different opportunities and they grow up differently. The term equal to me means that they are born with out sin and they are considered pure. As they grow up they spread to different ends of the spectrum as equality starts to disappear. Then when they are fully grow they are not equal at all and the actually two completely different people.
I believe that all men are created equal, but they don’t have all the same advantages. I think that God creates all people equally, but when it comes to parents and the environment given to them, everyone is not equal. Some people have a ‘head start’ to a good life, while others are born into poverty. However, I think that everybody has the ability to live the life they want, they just need to be dedicated to it.
I believe that all men are created equal, however our current society prevents them being viewed as such. God created everyone the same whether a different race, religion, or gender. Our society today looks at a persons equality by their economic status. Whether a person is wearing an armoni suit, or a guy with a shaggy beard wearing a t-shirt and jeans, people today will think the person with the suit is better by the way he dresses, when it all comes down to it there both the same and 100% equal. I have plenty of diverse friends and i think were all different so which brings me to conclude that “EQUALITY” to most people is just how much money you make, when to me it means everyone should be given the same chance no matter how different.
I don’t think that everyone is created equal. Equal means alike in quantity. Meaning money and same opportunities. No one is equal. If we were all equal there would be no fun or excitement in life. There would be no problems or struggles. That’s what makes us all different. Do I think it is fair? No, I don’t. But life is life and you were born to get through what ever is thrown at you. In the picture, I think that these two men were created equal. They both were born and the difference is that one used his chances in life and did something with his life. Everyone when they are born is started with a clean slate. They all have the same opportunities; the only difference is if they really want to work hard. If they don’t then life can become rough and unequal only because that’s the path they chose. No I don’t think that I am equal to everyone else. Life has thrown some rough things at me, but I am not going to let that stop me from being who I want. My other friends might have more than me but we are all pretty much equal in things. But not totally equal because some have had problems or choices that they made that were not right. If you are born from the poorest you can be who ever you want. If are born into money than you too then have that same choice, again the difference is if you want to work hard or not.
It’s interesting that you believe that people are all born with equal opportunity when none of us-myself included-were born into massively rich families. If our destiny’s are determined by the luck of birth then how are we created equally. Do I really have the same opportunity as Princes of England?
I feel lucky that I was born to parents who made it possible for me to pursue the things I wanted to but it’s really all, “balanced on a fairy’s wing” . Everything can change in an instant and if the story’s not true then what do I do?
I think that all people are created equal at first. When people are born they are the same. Some people when they are born are born into rich famlies and have a better life. If u are born poor u will not be equal with richer people. There are is no difference to rich and poor babies when they are first when they grow older they will spread apart from each other and not be equal anymore.
Is everyone created equal? I think so. Everyone does have a chance to be rich or do something with their life. It all depends on how bad they want it, and how determined they are. You have to be determination. It does not matter if you have money or not. Education is the key to success. Something’s take practice if you want to be a professional athlete or a singer or actress. If you practice everything is all good.
Even though everyone is created equal, some people have it easier in life because of money. It is easier for them, but all people are still equal. People that are rich or have more money have it easier because they can get into a better school easier or they might have an easier lifestyle. Middle class people might have to work to get into a private school that costs money but if they succeed it will all pay off in the end.
So I do think all people are created equal, but rich people or people that have more money have it easier because they can pay for things that they want. Middle class people do work harder than the some rich people. Others worked hard to be where they are at, like some professional athletes and business men.
I honestly believe that all men are not created equal. If all men were created equal they would be born into equal opportunity situations. A man who lives in poverty does not have the same opportunities and resources as a man that was born into money or an average man. If we were created equal how could we call someone a genius? The person showing this trait must have done something that no other man has. So if no one else has he is superior in that field of thinking or acting. Instead I believe we are born with special traits abilities. Theses traits that we have are not the same, but if used correctly we can all become better.
I believe that all men are not created equal, because if we were all created equal why do we have those in different social classes and those who look and act different than anyone else. There is no man on this earth who is the same as another, he is his own person who has control of his own destiny, so there really is no such thing as “all men are created equal” because if there was we would all be the same in every way which would be like an entire world were it was only filled with one person and exact copies of that person, that would be annoying. So the world is filled with different people with different ideas which is why this world is so interesting (and screw up, but whatever at least we are all different). This is why I believe that all men are not created equal, because we are all unique.
Imagine two guys walking down the street. T he first man has a two hundred dollar watch in his right hand. He is wearing a very expensive suit. Also he is wearing a blue tooth in his left ear. This man is one his way home to his hundred thousand dollar home, Where his wife stays with his fourteen year old, six times in a row gold metal winner for hockey. Also a young ballerina who is almost six years old. Now the other man walking on the right of this happy go lucky man is currently searching for a job, he continues but no luck. He returns to his apartment with his girlfriend coming home from her second job today. Still all the bills on the table. She is expecting him to go get food for his twelve year old daughter who is out side playing basketball with the ball from next door and an old milk carton. Also his son who is seven and it teased because he needs braces. These two men are at the same place and time , but yet they are so different .One cant afford braces or maybe even dinner tonight for his family. The other man has no worries about money. Its great that the first man has a great life, his parents were able to afford a college . But on the other man cant help that his whole family isn’t the richest , he cant blame himself that his son has no friends because of his teeth. So I do not believe one tiny little bit that everyone is created equal.
I believe all men are equal, but that doesn’t mean they do the same things. Everyone is created the same even though they are from a different place. As you grow up you learn more things and maybe you don’t act the same as others do. People work hard for other people. In the future I will work hard as others do and in the future I will live my life and live life to it. Everyone is theirselves and they choose their own path but all men are still equal.
I truly believe all men were created equal. Responding to what Mr. Kreinbring wrote, all people in the past worked really hard to get to where they wanted to be. Those people worked as hard as they could to create a better life for their children. The harder they worked the better life became for them and their children, down the family line. I dont believe “poof” someone is just born into money. I believe Their is a starting point. Someone has to do the work and do it hard. I believe everyone is as smart as the next person- but unfourtanetley everyone dosent use all of their brains completley. Some people and money savey and others are book smart. These people use their minds to its full potential. I believ in God, so I believe everything happens for a reason. I dont believe in luck or coinsidinces where something just happens.
I believe that all men are not equal. I believe this because if all men were born equal, then how is there rich and poor. Also if we were all born equal then all of us would have equal opportunities at things, which obviously is not the case because if I had the same opportunities as Donald Trump I would be living in a mansion and have jewelry and expensive things on everyday and be living without a care in the world which is not true. If all men are suppose to be “equal” then how come people worry about the bills they have to pay and others who sit down and don’t even think that money is an issue. Also if all the men in the world are the same then we would all be the same boring people and have no excitement to our lives. This is why I think all men are not created equal.
I believe that all people are not created equal. People come from different life situations. People have different opportunities in life. If you were born rich then i think you get more respect. When it comes to the law if you have more money you get better lawyers, where as if you don’t have that much money you can’t get a good enough lawyer. When different people are put in different situations race comes up. Let’s say for instance that a African American man walks into a store, he’s wearing sweat pants and a hat. The next man walks into the store with a business suit on and a breifcase in reality no matter which one walked in the store the owner or person that is working is going to help the man in a suit. It would be assumed that he has more money. Some people are born into money “old money” and they will be treated good for the rest of their lifes, because they have money. Sure, you have to work for it but i believe that money has almost everything to do with how your treated.
I do not believe that all men are created equal. If this were the case we would not have prejudice and descrimination in certain places and situations. There are some people, races, and genders that get special treatments or are treated poorly. Some people are given different opportunities than others. If all men were created equal we would all have the same things, be given the same opporunities and do the same things. Another example that all men are not created equal was the issue with slavery and extreme rascism during the time of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Those times were hard for african americans because of the color of their skin. Everyone looks different and that shouldnt mean that you treat people differently because of that or anyother factor that may effect how that person is percieved on the outside.
I don’t really belive hat all men are created equal just becuase they are born in America. What i do belive is that in America we try very hard to level the playing feild for everyone. We can see this in things like programs for the special ed students in the schools. Afirrative Action,Haddicapped parking. medicare, homeless shelters, and the such. It is the American dream that everyone be created equal, and that anyone can get anywhere in life, and so we do our best to make this true.
I believe that all men are created equally but some just don’t have the same opportunities as we do. We were all made equally and born with the same rights. But unfortunately people of higher power can take prevent them from using the power you have. One thing that people mistake for being equal is the ranking of power. Just because you are in a higher position of power doesn’t mean that their right overpower the other person. For example, adults like to believe that just because they’re adults and we’re kids (young adults) that a) we don’t deserve our rights, b) we don’t know how to use our rights, or c) they think they can tell us when we are able to use our rights. When the fact of the matter is that, they can’t tell anyone…because we are all created equally. That’s the bottom line. And no one can tell us otherwise.
I do not believe that all men are created equal. People are not born into the same life styles. Everybody has been brought up in different situations whether it was good or bad. Someone could of been born to a mom that was on drugs on the street. Is the baby created equal? No. Because the baby has to suffer and miss out on opportunitites all because of the way he was born. Some people were born poor. Having no money and living on the street. That’s not being created equal. I wish that everybody could be born and to a stable home with a family that includes your mom and dad. Then men would be created equal.
To me it seems that people are not created equal. You only have to look around you and see that we are all different from one another. Now, I agree we all are given equal rights to live by. We are not all treated equally by those around us. Religion, race, gender and even age can cause someone to be treated unequally. Everyone is raised in different environments, by different people, with different goals for each of them. A person’s upbringing and family values all affect how they are treated out in society.
I dont think all people are creted equal. When you say they are then that means that they are all the same. But when you look at some body deeply enough you begin to realize you are not the same as that human. But and then again you will never find someone the same as you.But if you do then he will be your hero. Alot of people think you are the same but i mean look at it this way…Look at the charecteristics and look at the phyical feature of a man.
I believe that men are created equal in some ways and in other ways there not. For example Discrimination- such as college, like different races can get different scholorships and others may not. I don’t think that this is fair but then again not all things are fair. For another example people getting charged with a crime, sya that there is a african american man and a white man getting charged with the same crime the white man is free but the african american guy is not. But i also think that people complain about jobs and etc. when everyone has the opportunity to get that same job but they are just to lazy to go out and get a job.
I don’t think all people are created equal. When you say they are then that means that they are all the same. But when you look at some body deeply enough you begin to realize you are not the same as that human. But and then again you will never find someone the same as you. But if you do then he will be your hero. A lot of people think you are the same but I mean look at it this way…Look at the characteristics and look at the physical feature of a man.
I don’t think that everyone is created equally. If everyone was equal then what would the whole point be in life. Though everyone does get the same chances in life, it still doesn’t mean that everyone will act the same. If everyone acted the same then the world would be very dull and very boring. There might be very few people who are created equal but that doesn’t mean that everyone can’t all be equal. It doesn’t matter if you act the same way as someone else or looked like someone else, everyone can be equal if they want to.
I think that people are created equal. They are very similar but there choices that they make are what seperate them. If you are born poor you can act the same as a rich man but you dont have all the money so thats the only difference. Im similar to my friends but we are very different. Most of my friends like sports like me but we dont like the same kind of music or movies.
I think that all people are created eqaully. Everyone was ment to be in this world for a reason ,if people wern’t equal how are they not eqaul. Except for the environment they grow up in, some people are ditched by there parents when they were young, and there’s people that grew up in a good environment , And had there parents there for them there whole life, And they’re still equal. Therefore i think all people are eqaul.
